What not to do when ordering pizza

When ordering pizza from an international pizza franchise, basic common sense does not seem to apply. There are a few simple things that people seem to forget when ordering pizza from a major pizza franchise, like their phone number, basic chicken wing flavours, where they live, etc,etc,etc,etc....

For today children I have a few words and rants about what not to do when ordering pizza
1. when someone asks for your 10 digit phone number do not start with 1-555-555-5555, North America won't have 11 digit phone numbers any time soon
2. know the phone number you are giving to the order taker
3. US phone prankers are the dumbest I've ever had, they will wait up to 3 mins on hold just to be confused when the order taker reads back their phone number, I guess Jersey Shores highlights the smartest people New Jersey has to offer, that or they don't know what call display is. Canadian phone prankers will only stay on hold for about 30 seconds and even then they give the order taker a real phone number, usually a friend/enemy they hope will actually pay for the pizza delivered to them. Strangely I've only once had a pranked customer cancel the food, the rest barely remembered ordering pizza, what was ordered sounded really good including the anchovies and banana pepper pizza.
4. Do know your address, stores will cancel an order that has a deliver address as the corner of 5th and 20th street. It?s amazing the number of people who order food and don't know their address, sadly for most of them that's where they actually live.
5. Know what you want to order, and don't let the only person in the room who can barely speak English when they are sober place the order after finishing off a 40 oz bottle of tequila. We can hear the people who can speak English laughing in the background.
6. Be organized when placing your order, don't order pizza and then decide what you want when the call taker is on the phone.
7. Ever wondered why you where on hold for two to three minutes see 4,5,6
8. Before asking what toppings an international pizza franchise has stop and think...every pizza store in North America has the same toppings, some are better.
9. If you can't eat pork don't order a Pizza with Bacon on it. I actually had a customer who said he couldn't eat pork, and then ordered two pizzas with pork on them. I told him there was pork on them so he told me to replace the ham with bacon.
10. Ladies unless you are actually under 10 years old don't try to sound like a ten year old, that's extremely annoying, especially when you have a mid thirties woman hammered out of her mind trying to live her lost youth.
11. We can hear everything in the background, with our headsets and set at 10%, for some reason allot of intoxicated and impaired customers have to both yell and have the volume for their cell phone microphones set to maximum levels.
12. The kids with a special prescription for some indeterminable health illness will always order the brownies
13. In Canada the people of the Province of New Found Land have been listed with the population with the highest levels of intelligence. For good reason, they shipped the really dumb ones off to work in the Alberta Oil patch. (The smart ones working in the Oil Patch, went back to the rock to work in the New Found Land Oil Patch, the others still haven't caught on)
14. When placing an order from a hotel, know the local number, use the phone in your room, if you don?t know the hotel?s phone number pickup the six pack and take it off the hotel stationary sitting under it.
15. It?s been a very long time since an international pizza franchise stopped the 30 mins or it?s free guarantee... Still about 20% of customers still expect it; sadly none of them are people who order from that company.
16. Don?t call up and ask for what are on special, most franchised pizza chains have more than 10 specials at any given point in time. Remember point number 7?
17. When ordering chicken wings, since we are an international pizza franchise, it?s not possible for us to have the basic flavors (Hot,Mild,Medium,S&P.BBQ,Ter,LP,Honey Garlic) after all that would just make us pedestrian, Remember point number 7?
18. If you only want to spend X number of dollars tell the order taker, don?t place the order then realize it?s too much...also I really wouldn?t want to eat a medium pizza and wing combination(wings fries, veggies and free dips) that included delivery, and GST for less than $20.00. There is a reason why when you order the same pizza either in Edmonton or San Antonio it tastes exactly the same.
19. It?s not possible for an international pizza franchise to send out uncooked chicken wings, the wings arrive at the store fully cooked and frozen. All they do at the store is heat them up to 165 degrees F. Or higher, usually for about 5 to 8 minutes in a deep fryer set to 400 degrees.
20. Chicken wings are supposed to be greasy it has to do with be cooked in a deep fryer. What do you expect when you immerse meat in a boiling caldron of oil?
21. If you don?t want your chicken wings to be greasy ask if they can run them through the pizza oven, this works really well with honey garlic wings. Especially if you send the wings through twice, once without the honey garlic and a second time coated with honey garlic sauce.
22. Why someone would not want the chicken drumlets I?ll never understand, still they do love the brownies.
23. Don?t try and barter with an order taker, they can?t adjust the price. Please don?t give the phone to someone else who is normally good at bartering; the order taker still can?t adjust the price.
24. Pickup orders can be picked up in 15 minutes; this is a good thing when you?re going to be normally driving home past or close to the store. When you don?t want to pay the delivery charge here is some simple math.

Drive to store 7 mins Drive to store 0 minds Time with family 29 minutes Lost time with family ? can never be replaced

So it?s really important to save an average of $4.00 after all the food will still be mostly warm when you get it home and not already picked through by the hungry teenager in the back seat.

Rather than fighting the morning traffic, leave for work the night before you're supposed to be there. This ensures that you won't be late and gives you an opportunity to do some silent work, which benefits the company without giving you unnecessary praise.

Become a hermit and snitch

You may have spotted other employees talking to each other while supposedly working. Don't be sucked in to this trap. You will have a much brighter day if you simply ignore the "hellos" and "how are yous." Alternatively, you could tell your boss about it and hopefully get the bad employees in trouble.

Eliminate bathroom breaks

Companies all over the world are guilty of this crime: allowing employees unlimited access to the bathroom. If you absolutely must use the bathroom during working hours, at least have the decency to bring your laptop in with you and write a report or two.

Outsource yourself

We all know about the benefits of outsourcing. Do your part and type up a memo about the cost benefits that could be achieved by terminating you and bringing in some 3rd world labor.

This flattens your belly better than any stupid crunches. If you have chub in your cheeks, move the smudge tool over your hair and wisp it onto your cheeks. He asked this because we were making so much noise even after knowing that principal?s office is just below our classroom. So, that guy did not respond with his head low. Principal gave a big one to his hand with the scale. Then he asked same question to every other student but all of them kept quiet facing down and got a big slap on their hands. Like this when the principal asked same question from a girl, she actually started looking below the bench and tried to search something. But when she did not find anything, she answered the Principal ?nothing is there?. On this answer, all students in class started laughing and as a result she got two tight slaps on her hand.

Herm The Pickpocket

Herm is a pickpocket who carries a bird on his shoulder.

Their ring leader is named Herm and he's the only minority--a Peruvian--in the entire group of white dudes. He's always eating, any time of day, and always the same thing: this slimy phallic-shaped piece of rubber disguised as a hotdog. His head is not really a normal head in that he only has one ear--lost the second in some sort of bike accident. He is pretty fat, and has stubby legs that are straight and have no curves. The funniest part about him though, is that he always carries a pet bird named Tonto who he keeps not in a cage, but on a leash, the way you might your bichon fries. Tonto sits on his shoulder and can supposedly speak though I've never heard a word.

"Speak Tonto! Speak!"

Herm is the sort of guy who, if you didn't know he was involved in his own little ring of unorganized crime, you might figure him to be a desk man or a bell boy--something in the hotel industry. He is sort of charming to people who he doesn't steal from and if he reaches to scratch his head when you're around him, you'll see that he wears a Smurf collector's item watch. Really takes away from the whole bandit shtick. I've seen him with other members of his family, his mother most often, doing some of the most ordinary things: grocery shopping, eating dinner, walking to church. Herm's a pretty normal dude, it's just that when other people reach into desk drawers, Herm reaches into pockets.

Herm is also very interested in outer space and claims that after he eats lunch, he's starting a new TV show called Pimp My Spaceship. While no one really believes him, it is in all our best interests to humor him with his stupid little idea the way you might your four year-old. ("Yes honey, you can become a Transformer when you grow up.")

I would usually be weary of a criminal who says he collects things, but Herm's collection is fun: he collects frisbees. He keeps them stacked all neatly, like pancakes, in this box that appears to once have belonged to a top hat. Being from Paraguay, he has trouble with English and often confuses words like cheesesteak and cheapskate. This problem with English has actually cemented our bond as friends.

One fun thing about being an American in a foreign country is that I am--by default--an ambassador to the English language: my expertise and wisdom highly sought after. Everywhere I go, without any background check or anything, people will rely on me to be their source for everything English. Herm is one of my students, if you want to call him that, and I enjoy teaching him not because I want him to learn, but because listening to Herm try to speak English is incredibly entertaining to me. Going along with the abnormal theme of our relationship, is the fact that Herm for the most part, has no interest in learning normal English. No, he is strictly into porn terminology and food. Judging from the listings in our aBillionbooks online bookstores, the whole world is in love with jokes, and books of jokes to such an extent, well, almost as much as it loves Paris Hilton.

But what jokes exactly? We did a random search at Abebooks, that new and usedbook giant that changed the face of the book trade worldwide, and came up with some interesting results.

Using the keyword ?jokes?, it was an eye-opener when Abebooks found 54540 books involving listed in its database. This was kind of strange in a way.

When last did you check out a friend?s book shelf at their place? We are prepared to bet that books of jokes did not feature much, if at all. Most likely there were relationship books, car manuals, sports books, glossy novels, a gift books, unopened textbooks.

Perhaps there was a ragged cartoon book at the end of the shelf and one in the bathroom.

So what are all these listed joke books exactly?
At the bottom of the price range ($1) we found Spongebob, Rugrats, Dumb and Dumber Garfield and hundreds in the 101 Jokes series: 101 Vacation Jokes, 101 Telephone Jokes, 101 Pet Jokes ? you get the picture. Using Spontaneous and Observational Humor

Imagine this. I arrive at a junior high school auditorium for a teacher inservice program. While setting up my session, I note two unrelated signs posted one above the other. Most of the 300 arriving faculty members had seen those signs many times.

An impromptu quip will hit the target more often than a canned joke.

Most of the 300 arriving faculty members had seen those signs many times. But probably none saw them as I did. In my opening remarks, I shared with them, "This is a unique facility. Look at the sign over the back door. 'Restroom--Capacity 475!'" That fresh and creative bit of humor helped me attract interest and build a relationship with the audience.

Spontaneous humor is a wonderful way to connect with an audience. An impromptu quip will hit the target more often than a canned joke. Audiences are flattered when the humor is created just for them. The teachers knew the comment about the signs was not a part of my script. And often, an improvised touch of humor lends a fresh appeal to your entire talk.

Here are four keys to the effective use of spontaneous humor:

1. Preparation
2. Observation
3. Courage
4. Practice

First, let's look at preparation.

What? Prepare to be spontaneous? Of course! Have you ever visited a comedy club and observed how the stand-up comic has an "off-the-cuff" ad lib for nearly anything that comes up? Think of those times when the comic chats with people in the front row and makes a witty remark if someone happens to be from Chicago, or works in the medical field, or is visiting the club with someone other than his or her own spouse. Such exchanges appear to be very spontaneous. But in reality, the comic is often making the "spontaneous" remark for the 50th or 100th time! The seasoned comic has prepared to be spontaneous.

In speaking situations, it's a good idea to be prepared with humor to handle unexpected events. For example, what will you do or say if the lights go out or the sound system fails? If you're armed with a humorous ad lib, the audience will be won over when they see the problem hasn't gotten the best of you.

Preparation should also include a study of your audience. If you circulate a preprogram questionnaire to obtain "inside information" about the group, you'll be able to customize your humor and make it seem much more spontaneous.

Here's another tip: carefully note any effective off-the-cuff humorous remark made by you or an audience member, then recycle it during your next talk. Although it may seem contradictory, being ready with a few humorous quips can actually create an illusion of spontaneity.

The second key is observation. Since most humor is based on relationships, the more observant you are, the more likely you'll be able to create humorous relationships and pictures in the minds of your audience. "Restrooms--Capacity 475" is an example of being observant. It was a bit of humor that created a funny picture in the minds of the audience.

On another occasion, while attending a holiday luncheon, I noticed a gentleman wearing loud green and red plaid pants with a black sports coat. On my way up to the stage, I passed by his table and asked him to join me. Once in front of the audience I said, "Bob has started a new tradition today. To carry on this tradition, next year when you arrive at your holiday luncheon, you'll be required to exchange an article of clothing with someone seated next to you. Would the gentleman wearing the other half of Bob's suit please stand up." With only a simple gesture and without any advance coordination, a gentleman wearing a loud plaid sports coat with black pants stood up! It brought the house down.

It's also a good idea to listen and observe as other speakers make remarks and presentations before you speak. At a company awards luncheon it seemed as though nearly everyone receiving 5, 10 and 15-year service awards had started in the company's telemarketing department and had subsequently worked their way into other jobs. I added a new line to my opening monologue. "People call me a comedy magician because they laugh at my magic and they're mystified by my jokes. But I wasn't always a comedy magician. I used to work in telemarketing!" It was on target and received a great response. The audience appreciated the fresh, spontaneous
nature of the remark.

Then there was the time I attended a function where a wide variety of recognition were being given for club service. During the course of the ceremony I noticed that some of the recipients were present and some were absent that evening. So one of my best lines came from a simple observation: "This is my kind of club. You gave out perfect attendance awards to two people who weren't even here!" Simple? Of course. But highly effective.

After you've prepared and remembered to be observant, you'll need to exercise the third key...courage! There's no doubt about it: Trying out new jokes takes guts. But the more you do it, the more comfortable you'll become. It's worth the risk. Besides, if your audience doesn't laugh, just pretend you were serious!

The fourth key is practice. You learn humor and spontaneity only by exercising your skills. I recommend you set a goal of using some humor in every presentation you give. Your humor comfort zone will increase and so will your spontaneity as you gain confidence.

A great way to practice your use of spontaneous humor is to join a Toastmasters club. Their meetings help you hone your critical speaking skills. You have the opportunity to give prepared and impromptu speeches. Testing your humorous ideas, you'll sharpen your skills. When the opportunity comes to say a few words at the close of a meeting, for example, use a bit of observational humor created out of the circumstances of the meeting. Or, if you're assigned to present a joke during the meeting, bring a "hip-pocket" joke only as a backup. Then, during the meeting, attempt to create a fresh, new joke by exercising your observational skills. It's not as difficult as it might seem at first. You'll become more observant and will eventually be able to create five or six pieces of observational humor by the close of every meeting. You can practice this technique at any type of meeting.

By using these keys of preparation, observation, courage and practice you'll become more spontaneous. You'll add a freshness to your presentation as you customize humor to your audience and your environment. Your talk will hit the mark...and the funnybone! About Author

My flight to Bocas del Toro, Panama was surprisingly easy. There are several in-country airlines that fly to Bocas from elsewhere in Panama, their main hub being Albrook Airport in Panama City. I approached the counter at Albrook and requested a seat. As the plane began to lean in on Bocas, I looked out the water and found just what I was expecting: this crystal clear emerald green water, dotted with islands, as if it was some sort of hellish golf course. My pilot friend announced to the cabin that if we looked out the window to our right, we could see a large school of stingrays?something that I was infatuated with, yet something that poor people on the left hand side of the plane never got to see. I took that chance to brag about how huge and beautiful the rays were, even exaggerating and throwing in a comment that I might have even seen a whale.

The flight to Bocas del Toro landed at Bocas airport: a shockingly-clean and surprisingly-well built compound. There were lots of taxi men there offering their services, but I already had a ride. Jim, one of the owners at Tranquilo Bay stood off to the side wearing some cool black shades and this slim smile?the kind of smile that you see on someone who knows they are in paradise and that they are not leaving. Jim took me over to a docking area, less than a mile away, where we boarded that had been waiting.
